One Roof partners with Pin Payments to support hundreds of women small business owners

Women entrepreneurs share their greatest success stories over the last 12 months

One Roof

5th July, 2024

Over the last two years we have worked really closely with Pin Payments to support hundreds of women entrepreneurs.

We have done this in a variety of ways, including hosting virtual panel events with some of Australia’s most successful founders as well as co-hosting a major Women’s Small Business Summit.

We have inspired, connected and elevated women in business to centre stage. We and Pin Payments work really hard to support business owners and so it was a natural fit to work together.

Some of our shared goals include to:

1. Provide small to medium sized business owners with the tools and resources they need to scale.

2. Help as many business owners as possible to set up their businesses online.

3. Open doors and create opportunities for women entrepreneurs.

We are so proud of what we have been able to achieve together. As part of our partnership, Pin Payments sponsored over 40 women in the last two years with 12 months access to One Roof’s membership and all member benefits. This kind of support has been instrumental to their business success.

We recently interviewed some of our scholarship winners. It was amazing to hear from such a diverse group of women and how One Roof and Pin Payments have supported their business growth over the last 12 months.

How has your business evolved in the last 12 months?

Where to start?

Some highlights include content writing for some amazing organisations and then continually getting more work. Another highlight has been working with clients I’ve always admired and being able to provide outsourced marketing and communications support. Finally, I’ve been able to try something new and dabble in offering facilitation and media training

What is your favourite part of the One Roof membership?

I have loved connecting with like minded women and also accessing the bank of resources to help me upskill and grow my business.

What are you looking forward to in the next 12 months?

In the next 12 months, I plan to really focus on which jobs bring me joy and look to retain more work in that space, especially in the media training and facilitation space.

Heather Rivendell, HER Creative

HER Creative is your one-stop-shop for obscenely attractive content, and everything visual communication. HER helps you create a brand that evokes a feeling and builds trust with your customers, at first sight.

How has your business evolved in the last 12 months?

I have been working on crafting services that truely speak to my customers and that are flexible for them to utilise and justify through this tough market. The outcome has been a larger network of valued long-term clients.

In the last 12 months, I have been a guest speaker at a number of events and a guest for many peers on podcasts and online chats. I have built and refined a lot of my business and customer processes. I have started to become a go-to person within the product styling community!

What is your favourite part of the One Roof membership?

The community, I really enjoy – especially, the meet-ups and connections I’ve made.

What are you looking forward to in the next 12 months?

I’m excited to achieve further growth and stability within the business, that I’ve been working so hard to grow this last year.

Laura Morellon, Studio Morellon

Studio Morellon is a Melbourne-based, French-owned boutique creative agency.

My mission is simple yet impactful:

Using my creative skills to amplify important messages and create strong brands. I craft visually engaging animations and designs aiming to challenge harmful attitudes towards women, reduce stigmas, and prevent gender-based violence.

How has your business evolved in the last 12 months?

12 months ago, I launched my business for the first time! So I can proudly say that my business has been evolving quite drastically, I found my voice, I’m very aligned with my audience and working on amazing impactful projects.

What is your favourite part of the One Roof membership?

The in-person events and the team behind OR! They always seek new ways to be “better”, they’re not just a “buy our membership” and then crickets.

What are you looking forward to in the next 12 months?

I’m looking forward to increased growth and more impact in the domain of gender-based violence

Michelle Kvello, Lantern Partners

Lantern Partners is a CFO (Chief Financial Officer) advisory business supporting founders of start ups and scale ups.  At a time of fast growth founders need access to commercial and strategic financial support to achieve sustainable, scalable growth. Often the health and hygiene finance work is sorted, but the missing piece of the puzzle is partnering support for the business to really flourish.

We support business owners through an inflection point in their business.  This can be preparing to sell their business, expanding overseas or “simply” scaling beyond the founder.  We do this by providing financial analysis and reporting, building forecast models and scenarios to guide their growth plans, providing advice to the CEO and board and managing the risks that come with fast growth.

How has your business evolved in the last 12 months?

This has been the year of scaling up!

1) Refining our revenue strategy – primarily around ideal client and strategic partner approach which has seen revenue grow by over 30%.

2) Refining our product strategy and go to market approach.

3) Doubling down on our team strategy and our “always on” recruitment approach.

4) Leveraging expert help and technology – In order to scale the processes, I employed a process consultant (found through One Roof!) to document all the existing process within the business, design workflows and recommend a platform that would automate these processes and house the company information so that it was easily accessible and understood by the growing team.  This meant inevitably managing through change which was hard for the team (as well as for myself!)

What are some business milestones you’re proud of?

1) We are 90% female staffed and all work flexibly in terms of time and location.  The finance industry is equally balanced in terms of gender.  But only 1/3 of key leadership positions are held by women.  With the majority of our roles being CFO advisory we challenge the stereotypes and normalise women in CFO roles in the organisations we support.

2) Market differentiation. We lead with CFO advisory as opposed to it being a bolt on of a multi disciplinary firm. This means that we can focus on the commercial and strategic support.  Our CFOs spent the majority of their careers in business partnering functions within corporate, which gives them an edge in providing support.  They have real world experience guiding business leaders through decision making. Though we often refer to ourselves as “virtual” CFOs, we are very much part of the business.

3) Market Education. Although I have been in the fractional space for over a decade, there is a still work to be done in educating the market on what a fractional CFO is, the benefits it can bring and when is the right time for a business to engage this kind of resource. I have done this by speaking on industry panels, publishing and being featured in online content and podcast guest appearances.

What are you looking forward to in the next 12 months?

Doubling down on growth knowing that we’re laser focused on our ideal clients, have an operational structure to support us and a kick ass amazing team!

Nicole Turnbull, Neon Shed

Neon Shed brings light to the dark sides of work and helps eliminate psychosocial hazards by providing the tools and options to know how to have a safe workplace.

How has your business evolved in the last 12 months?

We are always evolving to make sure we support employers, leaders and workers with their current needs and challenges when it comes to psychological safety.

Everyone I speak to has had challenges at work, and it’s mainly to do with difficult people. The legislation has changed recently when it comes to meeting your legal obligations around psychosocial hazards, and directors and managers are being personally fined, alongside workplaces when things go wrong.

Most people want to do the right thing, but they don’t know how or where to start. My tools, training and support services have changed to make it easier for employers, leaders, HR and WHS to improve safety and wellbeing at work.

What are some business milestones you’re proud of?

1. Hosting the World First Lived Experience Summit for bullying and sexual harassment

2. Providing training for employers and leaders to understand the new regulation amendments and helping to reduce or eliminate psychosocial hazards

3. Having over 2 dozen Under the Rug podcast episodes, bringing light to the dark sides of work! I had 3 One Roof members as guests – Leanne Hart spoke about awareness and choice, Eloise Tomkins spoke about self-sabotage and Dr Helen Lawson Williams shared insights and busted myths on our emotions.

What is your favourite part about One Roof?

The incredible connections! I love the Monday Power Up where I get to meet different incredible women each week. This has led to me participating in Dr Helen Lawson William’s anti burnout system program earlier this year – which was so refreshing and different to the resilience or self care training a lot of people do!

What are you looking forward to in the next 12 months?

Hosting the 3rd Annual Summit on 16-17 October during Safe Work and Mental Health Month! This year it is face-to-face in Brisbane and focuses on real challenges workplaces are having when it comes to psychosocial safety.

Fellow One Roof members are partners and speaking including Sarah Connelly, sharing how to manage alcohol at work and Dr Helen Lawson Williams on helping to put the brakes on burnout. Jade Warne will also be our photographer! I’m also really excited about supporting workers and workplaces to reduce bullying, sexual harassment, discrimination and other harmful behaviours at work.
